Outdoor Rink

The Hidden Valley Community Association has two ice surfaces located at #10504 Hidden Valley Drive NW.

•The first can be found directly north of the Hidden Hut with a surface of approximately 960 sq.ft. allowing for 20 skaters. This ice surface is appropriate for toddlers, young children as well as beginners learning how to skate. Park benches are available to put on and remove skates. No sticks or pucks are allowed.

•The second ice surface is a skating / hockey rink with boards and nets. It is located on the east side of the Hidden Hut. This surface is approximately 3200sq.ft. allowing for 65 skaters (49 sq.ft. allowed per person). The rink includes: player benches, lights for night use until 10:00PM. It is appropriate for all age groups. Sticks and pucks are allowed except for ‘Family Skate’ on Sundays from 12:00noon until 3:00PM.

Parking is available for both ice surfaces in the parking lot, south of the Hidden Hut. A portable toilet is located on the West side of the Hidden Hut.

Outdoor ice season is weather dependant, but generally runs from mid December to late February. Maintenance of the outdoor rinks is the responsibility of volunteers within the Hidden Valley Community Association. Building and maintenance of ice is completed by community volunteers. The rink is maintained weekly with ice building and patch filling when necessary. Both ice surfaces are flooded at least once a week, weather dependant.

Our obligations may be suspended to the extent that we are prevented or hindered from complying with them by events beyond our reasonable control including without limitation: failure of equipment, adverse weather conditions, in compliance with any law or governmental order, rule, regulation or direction.

Information on Rink Rat Volunteers

Do you Enjoy our Hidden Valley Skating and Hockey Rinks? (or maybe your children and their friends enjoy them?)

Again this year we are in need of “Rink Rats!”
In the event you have not seen, our ice surfaces are “just about” ready to skate on as we have been working hard over the past 1 ½ weeks flooding everyday to get it ready for the season!

Once the ice is ready for the skaters, we will require ‘Rink Rats” to assist in snow removal, ice maintenance, and flooding. We will be holding our 2nd Annual Rink Rat Orientation evening Thursday November 23th @ 7:00 PM at the Hidden Hut where you will learn everything there is about being a volunteer “Rink Rat”. It doesn’t matter how much time you have, as we can accommodate everyone’s schedule or if you just wish to be on the list when we need assistance, or you just want to show up when you are available, that is fine also. We are very flexible with meeting your schedule, so if you have “any time” at all this season, please come forward!
Last year we had an amazing group of “Rink Rats” and we had lots of laughs and even had a “Rink Rat Hockey Game”. Plus we had absolutely great ice throughout all kinds of weather!

Please consider coming out and lending a hand for the children and people of our community as each year proves there are so many people who enjoy being outdoors and taking advantage of our hockey and pleasure rinks.

Please RSVP rink(at)hiddenhut(dot)org hat you can attend the “Rink Rat Orientation Evening so we know how many people are attending. (and provide treats and refreshments)

Thanks and contact me as soon as you can please!
